Two 12×16 Custom Sheds Built On-Site for New London Schools

Eastern Connecticut Sheds completed two custom 12×16 storage sheds for New London Schools in New London, Connecticut. The project demonstrates how an on-site shed can be tailored for an organization’s storage needs while maintaining a professional appearance.

Project specifications

Each building measured 12×16 feet and received a custom green exterior. The sheds included an additional single door, a ramp and a loft, giving staff more ways to organize, access and use the available storage space.

Why 12×16 is a practical size

A 12×16 shed provides 192 square feet of floor area. That makes it a strong option for equipment, seasonal materials, maintenance supplies and other items that would overwhelm a smaller backyard building. The loft adds elevated storage while preserving more of the main floor.

Multiple access points

Standard double doors provide a wide opening for larger equipment and bulky items. The added single door gives users a convenient everyday entrance without opening the larger doors each time. A ramp makes it easier to move wheeled equipment and loaded carts.

Built directly at the property

The sheds were built on-site rather than transported to the property as completed buildings. On-site construction can be especially valuable for schools, businesses, churches and residential properties where access, existing improvements or the desired final location may complicate delivery of a fully assembled shed.

Eastern Connecticut Sheds uses pressure-treated 2×6 floor framing, LP SmartSide siding, PVC trim and 30-year architectural shingles. Materials and options are selected to provide practical storage, durability and an attractive finished building.
